Introduction
Welcome to our classic car restoration stories section. Here, we share the incredible journeys of classic vehicles brought back to life. Today, we dive into the transformation of a 1968 Chevy pickup truck, a project filled with passion, dedication, and a touch of personal history.
The Backstory
This 1968 Chevy pickup was owned by a young man who joined the military right after high school. At 19 years old, he was involved in top-secret work. After several years of that intense lifestyle, he came home with PTSD and this truck. When I acquired it, I had always dreamed of building a rat rod, respecting the artistry of those who built them.
The Transformation
Initially, I planned to build a rat rod. However, I soon realized that a compromised rat rod wouldn’t suffice. So, we embarked on a complete frame-off restoration, replacing almost all the sheet metal. What started as a 6-cylinder 3-speed longbed evolved into something extraordinary.
The Upgrades
The restoration included replacing the original engine with a 383 small-block engine equipped with Holley Sniper fuel injection, upgrading to a 4L80 transmission, and installing Ride Tech suspension and Dakota Digital gauges.
Current State and Future Plans
Today, the truck stands as a testament to our hard work and passion. We’re now searching for a vintage-looking animal trailer to tow behind it. It looks like my daughter Annabelle will be using it as her daily driver when she turns 16.
